Which Companies are Doing the Best at Integrating the Leadership Level?

The Votes are In...

From About.com

The Votes are in... Fortune Magazine has identified two outstanding leaders in the corporate world - companies that have broken down color barriers, integrated the executive level, and leveraged diversity for greater bottom line success. These are:
  • Pepsi

According to Fortune Magazine, Pepsi was color-blind when no other large company was. In 1940 an essay contest guaranteed the winner a year-long training position at Pepsi, regardless of race. Pepsi became the first major company to hire an African-American man or woman in a professional capacity.

  • IBM

In 1953 a new company policy required the hiring of "people regardless of race, color, or creed." Thus, IBM had implemented the nation's first corporate equal employment opportunity manadate. In addition, in 1956 it opened the first fully integrated plant in the south and forced housing integration in areas where it dominated real estate.
